IV (INTRAVENOUS) SEDATION DENTISTRY |
|
Once you've experienced sedation dentistry with Dr. Munira, you'll probably never be afraid to go to the dentist again. Dr. Munira offers both IV Sedation and Conscious Sedation options. In the former case, you will be asleep and totally unaware of the dental work being completed. In the latter case, you'll be sedated just enough to be unaware of the treatment, as if you were snoozing. In both case, you'll wake up refreshed, with little or no memory of what dental work was accomplished. Because you are completely comfortable but completely free of anxieties, we can do years of dental treatments in one or two visits. We can replace crowns or dentures, restore sore gums to good health, whiten yellow or stained teeth, fix a chipped tooth, and more.

More about IV Sedation Dentistry |
|
Intravenous (IV) sedation dentists receive specialized advanced training
and are certified as a specialist IV sedation dentist. IV sedation, also known as "deep conscious sedation," is not commonly available for general dentistry, except for Oral Surgery such as third molar extractions. Typically other conscious sedation techniques such as oral conscious sedation as suggested in case of mild anxiety. This involves taking an Oral medication prior to the office visit which will induce a sedated state. However, in cases where the patients have moderate to high Anxiety, IV sedation is highly recommended. It is a safe and effective treatment for patients requiring dental work which has been avoided due to fear and anxiety, and which is subsequently eroding their quality of life. IV sedation medication is administered directly into a patient's bloodstream, and thus there are major advantages of IV sedation: * It acts quickly to sedate the patient. Oral medications often require an hour or more to take effect. * If the patient is not sedated enough during the treatment, the dentist can administer more medication through the IV, and the effect is instantaneous. * In addition, the patient will usually have little or no memory of the dental treatment. Before, during and after the treatment, the IV sedation dentist will monitor the patient's heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure. Patients who receive IV sedation are generally not allowed to leave the dental office alone and are released to a responsible adult. Patients who have undergone IV sedation will typically walk out of the dental office, with the work completed, but with little or no memory of the process and time spent in the dental chair. |
