PEDIATRIC SEDATION - FAQ

Will there be any pain?
No. The child will feel no experience of pain! Virtually all of our tinytot patients have no recollection of the time they spent in the dental chair. They walk out with their parents as if they just woke up from a peaceful sleep.

Will they be unconscious?
NO, the children will be in a deeply relaxed BUT consious state, and will be responsive.

Will the child be monitored?
Yes, one of our team is always with them and their vital signs are monitored during the entire visit. The child is never alone.

How long will the child be sedated?
Depending on the dental needs, from two to three hours.

Will my insurance cover the sedation treatment?
We'll review your insurance coverage and, if necessary, make financial arrangements to insure you get the dental care you need.

Oral Sedation Dentistry protocols have been used safely for over 30 years with millions of dental procedures. Before starting any treatments, in the very first office visit, Dr. Lokhandwala will review the medical history and explain how Sedation Dentistry can work to the parents and the child.

On the day of your appointment, the child will be admistered a liquid medication (the sedation medication in a drinkable form similar to the flavored medication given to children). The parents will sit in the office with the child until they become sedated. Our experienced clinical team members and Dr. Lokhandwala will make certain that the child is totally relaxed and completely comfortable and they will monitor them very closely.. Most children feel NO DISCOMFORT whatsoever during and after treatment, and have little or no memory of the visit.

When you leave our office the child will in most cases be awake and will walk out with their parents. The chidlren will sleep once they are home and awake in most cases completely unaware of the dental treatment they have received. Depending on the work performed, Dr. Lokhandwala may prescribe other medications such as Antibiotics or Painkillers as required.
